Google Web Accelerator is a web accelerator from Google. It is a software you can freely download and install on your computer to access websites faster. This is done via caching on Google's servers and prefetching as well as data compression. Because of all the data is going through the servers of Google is acts as a Proxy server as well.

In many environments it is impossible to block Google so this is a very nice method to bypass/circumvent Internet censorship. After you installed the software you can edit the preferences by visiting a special URL.

In a test with a ProxyJudge, I was identified as an IP like "72.14.193.x", however the Googe Web Accelerator sends the "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR=" flag, so it is not Anonymous.

Since May 2009 Google Web Accelerator is no longer available for download. Similar services include fasTun and Opera Turbo.
