Firefox
From Cship
Firefox is a web browser licensed under the GNU GPL open source licence. It is strongly recommended to use Firefox or Opera instead of the Internet Explorer because they are a lot safer and have also more features to bypass Internet censorship.
[edit] Recommended extensions regarding censorship:
- AdBlock Plus - AdBlock is a Firefox extension used to filter unwanted advertisements on websites. It prevents the browser to actually load the unwanted content so it makes the pages load faster, saves cpu power and saves a lot of bandwidth. Especially on most webproxies there are too many ads and this extension is necessary to make those useable. Since the original AdBlock extension won't be updated anymore it is recommended to use the AdBlock Plus extension. A good filterlist is the easylist.
- httproxy - httproxy allows you to open any website over webproxies like CGIProxy, PHProxy or Zelune. It was inspired of the Blogspot blockings in Pakistan. The current version is 0.9.3 from November 2006.
- Live HTTP headers - Live HTTP headers is a tool to view the HTTP headers the browser is receiving. This can be very useful to test/analyze the Internet connection on filtering or proxies. The current version is 0.13.1.
- Switchproxy tool - Switchproxy tool is a little tool which allows easy switching of proxy servers. You can add a list of lets say 6 proxies you use for different things and change them easily with a click. The current version is 1.4.
- BrowseAtWork - BrowseAtWork is a extension which adds a shortcut to the menu to open the current website with a Webproxy. Current version is 0.3.2 from September 2006
- FoxyProxy - FoxyProxy is a very powerfull extension for managing proxies in Firefox. It is often used together with TOR
