Twitter is a free social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters. This way, the websites allows very fast communication and coordination of many people. Twitter is blocked in several countries, especially ahead of elections.
However, thanks to the open API of Twitter it is difficult to block access to Twitter completely since there are many free alternative clients and webservices which can be used to read Twitter messages.
